2026-09-27 20:10:00

Overview

The HYPTEC HT is the first mid-to-large-size fully electric SUV from GAC AION's premium sub-brand, HYPTEC. Officially launched in November 2023, it is pitched as the "first premium pure electric SUV for elite families". Serving as the marque's second production model after the HYPTEC GT, the HYPTEC HT showcases GAC Group's latest breakthroughs in dedicated EV architecture, EV powertrain technologies, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), highlighting its long range, ultra-fast charging, high-level autonomous driving capabilities, and distinctive gull-wing doors as core USPs. Underpinned by GAC's dedicated AEP 3.0 EV platform, the SUV measures 4,935 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,700 mm in height, with a 2,935 mm wheelbase in a five-seater configuration. Propelled by a rear-mounted single electric motor, it produces 250 kW and 430 Nm of torque, completing the 0–100 km/h sprint in 5.8 seconds. Power comes from either an 83.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery or a 99.5 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, delivering CLTC-rated ranges of up to 672 km and 825 km respectively. Priced between RM189,900 and RM229,900, the SUV was updated with the 2025 model year on 16 October 2024, introducing a new gull-wing door variant.

Design Language

The HYPTEC HT embraces the "Human-Machine Symbiosis Aesthetics" design philosophy, featuring a sleek, curvaceous silhouette with an aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.245 Cd. Up front, it retains signature HYPTEC design cues with a fully enclosed grille and sharp, diamond-cut-inspired headlamp clusters, flanked by vertical LED daytime running lights (DRLs) to project a futuristic road presence. Along the sides, sleek character lines are complemented by frameless doors and flush pop-out door handles, while two-tone turbine-style aero alloy wheels accentuate its electrified stance. Flagship variants are distinguished by rear gull-wing doors that open upwards and outwards; equipped with 12 radar sensors, they actively detect surrounding obstacles to avoid hitting pillars or low ceilings, serving as the SUV's defining design hallmark. The minimalist, symmetrical cabin is swathed in premium Nappa leather upholstery accented by woodgrain inlays, satin metal trim, and cross-stitching details, delivering a luxurious yet understated premium cockpit ambience.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the skin, the HYPTEC HT is driven by a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor rated at 250 kW (approx. 340 PS) and 430 Nm of torque, dispatching the century sprint in 5.8 seconds. A lower-output entry-level variant (180 kW / 245 PS; 0–100 km/h in 6.8 seconds) was also previously offered. Top speed is electronically capped at 180 km/h. For energy storage, the 2025 HYPTEC HT offers a choice between an 83.3 kWh LFP battery and a 99.5 kWh ternary lithium battery pack. Under the NEDC cycle, maximum driving range is rated at 825 km, translating to roughly 480 km on the WLTP cycle. Energy efficiency is rated at an economical 12.8–13.1 kWh per 100 km. The SUV is built on an 800V high-voltage electrical architecture featuring silicon carbide (SiC) power modules, allowing a 15-minute DC fast charge to replenish 425 km of range; a 30% to 80% state of charge (SoC) takes just 15 minutes, while 10% to 30% takes a blistering 4.6 minutes. GAC's proprietary Magazine Battery 2.0 safety technology comes standard alongside a lifetime battery warranty and an IP67 dust and water resistance rating. It also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse charging capabilities with an output of up to 3.3 kW.

Chassis and Handling

Riding on GAC's dedicated AEP 3.0 EV platform, the HYPTEC HT adopts a front-engine, front-wheel drive setup with an independent suspension layout comprising double wishbones up front and a five-link setup at the rear. This setup strikes a fine balance between sharp, engaging front-end handling and plush rear-seat ride comfort, with suspension travels of 105 mm at the front and 115 mm at the rear effectively soaking up uneven tarmac. An electric power steering (EPS) setup combined with a tight turning radius ensures effortless agility in narrow city streets. To elevate cabin refinement and NVH suppression, comprehensive acoustic insulation and thick sound-deadening materials are applied throughout, keeping wind noise well contained even at 80 km/h. Drivers can toggle between Eco, Comfort, and Sport driving modes, along with three levels of regenerative braking intensity to suit city stop-and-go traffic and highway cruising alike.

Cockpit and Creature Comforts

Inside, the HYPTEC HT boasts an 8.8-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a floating 14.6-inch 2.5K central infotainment touchscreen, yielding a 90% screen-to-body ratio. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset with 5G connectivity, the system runs the ADiGO 5.0 HMI operating system with four-zone voice command recognition, facial recognition, and over-the-air (OTA) software update support. Audiophiles are treated to a 22-speaker Belgian Premium HIFI bespoke sound system—complete with integrated driver-seat headrest/shoulder speakers—paired with an active in-cabin fragrance system. Seating appointments feature front Nappa leather sports seats with power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and 10-point massage functions, while the rear seats recline up to 143° and pair with a fold-out footrest behind the front passenger seat to create an ultra-luxurious "First-Class Boss Seat" lounge experience. A panoramic glass roof with a power sunshade comes standard across the board, alongside a 360-degree surround-view camera system and wireless smartphone charging.

Safety and Driver Assistance

On the passive safety front, the HYPTEC HT employs a high-strength safety cage construction, leveraging lightweight body engineering and high-strength steel-aluminium composites to shave off roughly 70 kg in vehicle kerb weight. Battery safety is further elevated by the Magazine Battery 2.0 system, which incorporates advanced thermal insulation, ultra-fast active cooling, and 24/7 real-time monitoring.

For active safety and ADAS, 2024 model year and newer HYPTEC HT models are equipped with the ADiGO PILOT intelligent driving suite. Top-tier variants gain a next-generation roof-mounted solid-state zoomable LiDAR and an NVIDIA Orin-X computing platform, supplemented by two additional forward millimetre-wave radars to form a comprehensive 5R11V sensor suite comprising 5 millimetre-wave radars and 11 high-definition cameras. The architecture leverages a BEV+OCC+Transformer neural network perception stack with AI large models, featuring an industry-first end-to-end intersection algorithm trained on hundreds of thousands of complex junction scenarios. Active safety and driver assistance features include Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM). High-spec trims further support Navigation Driving Assist on highways (Highway NDA) and fully automated parking, with Urban Navigation Driving Assist (City NDA) currently being rolled out.
